I’m a writer, medical anthropologist, and assistant professor in the Global Studies Program at the University of Virginia. My first book, Border Hacker, was a national finalist for the Chautauqua Prize and the Victor Turner Prize, among others.

I am currently focused on two new book projects. The first, A Mute God, is a family epic and work of literary nonfiction that begins after my brother’s sudden memory loss during the 2020 pandemic. The second, The Body Migrant, is an ethnographic and political history of the Southern Border Program, the blueprint for 21st century border militarization and externalization around the world.
